Zodial computes charts in your browser. Without an account, the personal data we hold is an email address if you join the Observatory waitlist and a mobile number if you sign up for the daily sky digest by text. With an account, we also hold what you choose to save, described under Accounts.
Birth data
When you enter a birth moment in the studio, the onboarding steps or the Constellation, the calculation runs on your device using the Zodial engine. Unless you save it to an account, the data stays in the places described below, inside your own browser.
| Where | What | How to remove it |
|---|---|---|
| Page address, after the # sign | Studio settings, including birth data if you entered it. Browsers do not send this part of an address to any server. | Close the tab, or open the studio without a link. |
| Session storage | The onboarding draft, so the back button keeps your entries. It is cleared when you close the tab. | Close the tab. |
Local storage (zodial.constellation.v1) | The charts you add to your Constellation, with the date you confirmed consent. | Delete each chart with ✕, or clear site data in your browser settings. |
Local storage (zodial.journal.v1, zodial.thermo.v1) | Only if you use the on-device journal or the thermodynamic lens: your entries and which daily cards you have seen. | Clear site data in your browser settings. |
Share links. A share link carries your settings, and your birth data unless you tick “Without birth data”. Anyone who has the link can see what it contains, so share it only with people you choose.
Downloads. A downloaded clock, poster or time-lapse is created on your device. The clock file contains your birth data so that it can run offline; it stays wherever you save it.
Place search. City search uses a list of 7,452 cities built into the page (GeoNames). No place name you type is sent anywhere.
Your location. “Use my location” in the studio asks your browser for permission and uses the result only on your device to set the live sky.
Accounts
An account is optional. It lets you save clocks, claim an @handle, publish a profile, connect with other members and choose your daily digest.
- Sign-in: your handle, display name and, if you add one, your email address. Passkeys are stored as public keys only; Zodial never receives the private key. Sign-in sessions are kept as one-way hashes, with the device name, sign-in method and last activity.
- Saved clocks: the clock settings you save, and the birth date, time and place if you choose to save them. Birth data is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before it is stored.
- Public profile: nothing is public until you publish your profile, and then only the items you switch on. Exact birth date, time and place appear only if you turn each one on.
- Connections: requests, accepted connections and, for each one, what you share: your live clock, your chart for readings (your birth data is sent to their browser to compute synastry and composite charts), your birth details, shared transits and Hermes readings. You can change or withdraw each permission, disconnect, block or report at any time.
- Notes and notifications: notes you share, the members you mention in them, connection requests and digests delivered in Zodial.
- Digest preferences: the sections you pick, delivery channel, time and zone, the clock that personalises it, and a linked mobile number if you link one by texting a code to (855) 266-6606.
- Consent records: the date you accepted the Terms and each time you chose to save or share birth data.
Account data is stored in Cloudflare D1 and processed by Cloudflare, Inc. on our behalf; email sign-in codes and notifications are delivered by our email provider. Download everything in one file, or delete your account permanently, under Account · Security & data. Deletion removes your account, clocks, birth data, connections, notes and notifications; a text digest subscription is a separate program and continues until you reply STOP.
The Observatory waitlist
If you join the waitlist, we store your email address, the interests you tick (for example the WhatsApp digest), the page you joined from and the date. We use it for one purpose: to tell you when the Observatory opens. We do not sell it, share it for marketing, or add it to other lists.
The waitlist is stored in Cloudflare Workers KV, operated by Cloudflare, Inc. on our behalf. To be removed, write to [email protected] from the address you signed up with and we will delete it.
Text messages: the Zodial daily sky digest
The Zodial daily sky digest is an SMS program operated by Vickan Capital, 500 E 4th St, Suite 635, Austin, Texas 78701, and sent from the toll-free number (855) 266-6606. You join it on the text digest page by entering your mobile number and ticking the consent box, then replying YES to the confirmation text we send. No digest is sent until you confirm.
- What we collect: your mobile number, the consent wording you agreed to, the date and time of your sign-up and your YES confirmation, a one-way hash of the IP address used to sign up, your time zone, the messages you send to the number and the delivery status of the messages we send.
- What we use it for: sending the daily digest you asked for, answering your replies through Hermes, honoring HELP and STOP, and keeping a record of your consent.
- Frequency and cost: message frequency varies, about 1 message per day, plus replies to your messages. Message and data rates may apply.
- Help and opt-out: reply HELP for help or email [email protected]. Reply STOP at any time to cancel; you will receive one confirmation and no further messages.
- Consent is not a condition of purchase. You never need to sign up for texts to buy or use anything from Zodial.
Mobile numbers and SMS opt-in data are never sold or shared with third parties for marketing or promotional purposes. They are processed only by the providers that run the service on our behalf: Twilio, Inc., which delivers the messages, and Cloudflare, Inc., which hosts the sign-up and stores the records. We keep your number and consent record while you are subscribed and for up to four years after you opt out, as proof of consent; write to us to have your number deleted sooner.
Hosting, cookies and analytics
The site is served by Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address and browser type to deliver pages and protect the service from abuse. Zodial does not use analytics, advertising trackers or marketing cookies. When you sign in, the site sets two first-party cookies: an HttpOnly session cookie and a cookie that tells the page you are signed in. Signing out removes both.
Children
Zodial is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their email addresses. Do not add a child's chart to a Constellation for romantic comparison.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, or to object to its use. Because birth data never reaches us, these rights apply to waitlist emails and SMS sign-up records. Write to [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days.
Changes
If we change how Zodial handles data, we will update this page and the date above before the change takes effect. Material changes, such as accounts or messaging, will be announced on this page first.
